The L.A.B. Project

ABOUT THE L.A.B. PROJECT

The L.A.B. (Life After Ball) Project is dedicated to helping you take the right steps into the next stage of your life. Hi, I am Abiola, the creator of Globall Life and The L.A.B. Project. Making transitioning out of professional sports an easy (as possible) process for all retiring athletes is my mission. I believe that being able to navigate life after retiring from professional sports and remaining financially independent Is the ultimate holy grail to life after ball happiness. After winning a D1 basketball NCAA national championship and graduating from Baylor University, I played professionally in Europe for 10 years. Right before retiring I got a Master's degree in International Business Management paid by the basketball team I played for - I'll tell you more about this in another post. A year after graduating I started working as a digital consultant for a global technology firm, making 6 figures and eventually making more than I ever made playing basketball. Most athletes know that retirement isn’t a walk in the park, especially if you aren't a "big name" with endorsements waiting on you. My goal is to show you that if you take the right steps it’s possible to find a passion in the second stage of your life. I did at age 35 and I know many other athletes who have too. My goal is to connect and help as many athletes as possible make career moves, smart financial decisions, build successful companies, reach financial independence, and live their best lives. One of my favorite quotes is from the great Kobe Bryant (RIP) “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do." JUST AFTER GETTING MY MASTER'S I WAS UNEMPLOYED, LIVING IN MY UNCLE'S HOME, AND DEPLETED MY BASKETBALL SAVINGS. 5 YEARS LATER I BOUGHT A HOUSE, INVESTED IN REAL ESTATE AND HAVE A JOB I ENJOY. I was the typical athlete struggling to find what else I was good at, and it sucked. I wanted to get a career I loved just as much as playing basketball, making as much if not more money, and have enough to live the traveler's life I had gotten accustomed to.

I needed a plan. I took the LSAT and got accepted into law school (it was plan B), spent a few months selling my art, driving Uber and working for Favor to give myself enough time to find a job I would like instead of getting stuck in the first thing that came my way out of pure necessity. Going through this weird, sad, scary and irritating stage of my life is why Globall Life and the L.A.B Project were created. I hope to inspire you and help you navigate the journey to the next stage of your life!

Over time, I’ll share best strategies I’ve used to build my resume, grow valuable skills and still have the freedom to pursue the projects I’m most passionate about.

Let's be clear, you will have to put in the work to get where you want to, but it doesn't mean you have to do it alone. On The L.A.B. Project you will have free access to new ideas, tools, and time-tested strategies that I hope will make your life better and future richer.
